DIYing Dentistry
During a recent collaboration with Colgate, I led a team interested in finding ways to apply learnings from DIY culture to dentistry.
No we didn’t develop an at home root canal kit. But we did find that at the heart of DIY is a feeling of accomplishment. So working closely with internal R&D teams we designed and developed 4 different innovation platforms for:
- At home diagnostics
- Kits for deeper cleaning at home
- A more connected oral care tool
- Oral Care meets holistic wellness platform

My Smile Guard Prototype
My Smile Guard is an at home diagnostic tool that protects your smile while you sleep and customizes your oral care routine.
Simply wear the mouth guard overnight to protect your teeth from stress-related grinding. In the morning the My Smile Guard app provides a customized cleaning guide based on where plaque has begun to grow on the guard. A UV light inside the device cleans the mouth guard between uses.
Smile Hi-Club Prototype
The Smile Hi-Club is a personalized service that builds monthly oral-care experience based on your lifestyle. Each kit comes with oral care products designed to support various oral care lifestyles such as:
People who like foods and drinks that may stain their teeth
People who love to eat sweets
Oral Care products that help with stress
Oral care product for folks who have limited time
For convenience, the Smile Hi-Club app offers simple tutorials on how to use the products inside each kit.
Uni Prototype
Uni is a universal oral care tool that simplifies everyday oral care and connects to deeper cleaning experiences.
This electric oral care utensil combines brushing and flossing through its modular brush head and interdental flossing head. The heads can be quickly swapped out through the charging base, which also uses UV light for cleaning.
